How to – Prague on a Budget!

Everyone is always looking for a cheap getaway. And quite frankly it doesn’t get much cheaper than this! You’ve heard Prague is cheap haven’t you? Well we are here to confirm how you can visit Prague on a definite budget without compromising on luxuries and fun!

Heres the basics…

  • Dates of travel: Monday Sept 24th – Friday Sept 28th 2018
  • Accommodation: Airbnb
  • Spending money: £150pp/£300 total = 8200CZK
(Conversion rate of £1 = 27czk at time of travel)
  • Total expenditure including flights, accommodation and spending money for leisure, food, drinks, transport: £367.36pp

Cheap Flights
£88 return pp/ £176 total

Just like all flights, you can find cheap ones! It’s just one of those things you have to keep looking at and of course leaving on a weekend would be more expensive hence why we managed to get a cheaper price for our flights as we flew Monday to Friday.

Good Value Accommodation – Apartment
£129.36pp/£258.72 total

We decided it was a better option to book through Airbnb and get ourself an apartment so that we had the option of preparing our own food if we wanted. I have always preferred an apartment to a hotel because you you get more value of the price you pay.

I can not recommend Josef enough for accommodation in Prague as he has stood out from all other hosts in a number of ways. Prior to our trip away, Josef emailed offering his guidance and knowledge about Prague to help plan our stay. With numerous questions I had, he was never short of an answer or guidance. He was extremely welcoming and always reachable via email/whatsapp. He also checked up on us throughout the days to see if there were anything he could help us out with.

The apartment itself is beautiful. It’s quite often you find good value accommodation that doesn’t tick all boxes however this one does.

  1. Safe and Secure (3 secure doors before entering your own door to apartment).
  2. Modern with nice decor (high ceilings and spacious).
  3. Kitchen includes all utensils: plates, pots, pans, chopping boards, washing up liquid, bin bags etc
  4. Very clean
  5. Shower room separate to toilet
  6. Close to supermarkets, tram stop on door step, walking distance to centre
  7. Josef includes his own guide to things he recommends to do/see/eat in Prague too!

And for all of the above I highly recommend him. I have attached the link to the apartment below if you would like to book or look at better pictures.

£33.48pp/£66.96 total

Pre-booked transfers from Airport to Apartment (590czk one way).
= £11pp/ £22 total one way
=£22pp return/£44 total return
Transport Card – 72 hours (310czk pp)
= £11.48pp/ £22.96 total.

We pre-booked transfers as we were late arrival in and also late flight out. Of course without transfers it would be much cheaper.

By pre-booking transfers you are entitled you join the free tours via the link provided to you from booking. I highly recommend these tours as it covers EVERYTHING.
You can however book these tours without booking transfers via the link attached below.

There are 2 FREE TOURS available to you: Old town and Jewish Quarter tour or Charles Bridge and Prague Castle. They run on tips only, so basically you book ahead of time as the tours are limited to a max of 20/30 people per tour. You meet the start point and will be told my your local guide you tip what you think is appropriate at the end of the tour. If you did not enjoy you do not tip. Simple as that.
We have never took a walking tour before never mind a FREE tour and we were impressed. You are culturally informed throughout your whole tour with a touch of humour (depends on tour guide). We seen much more of Prague doing these tours than what we would have covered ourselves independently, not to forget we would not have known the history if exploring ourself. My personal opinion is – you are getting ripped off by booking a fixed rate tour.

So where does that leave us…

£150 total spending money – £33.48 for transport
= £116.52 left to spend on tips for x2 tours, food and drink!

£116.52 split between 4 days = £29.13
Sounds almost impossible right? Read our next blog to see exactly how it is 1000% do-able without losing out on fab cocktails whilst chilling in the sun, seeing the sunset in the best spot and being the ultimate foodie you can be!
